Mel was born in Harlem, NY and moved to the Bronx with her mother and stepfather when she was 11 years old. Because of her difficult childhood, Mel found love and comfort with dogs. When she was very young, she owned her first pit bull named Clyde. Clyde was Mel’s best friend and remembered how much he loved to go to the playground and his love for slides.
Mel attended the first ever Young Woman’s Leadership school in East Harlem and would strive to be a great student throughout the years. In 2013, she received her High Honors Bachelors Degree in painting from Wesleyan University and was the first person in her family to graduate college.
Her passion for dogs solidified in 2013 when she moved to New Orleans and worked as a kennel attendant at Camp Bow Wow. That same year, she adopted a beautiful pit bull name Didi. Mel credits Didi as the reason for her evolution as a person.
Mel has worked fro Blue Prints for over a year and volunteers for Cuse Pit Crew. She makes strides every day to continue her knowledge on dog behavior and training techniques. One day, Mel aspires to own her own Pit Bull sanctuary named Didi and Clyde’s Place.
